Housekeeper, Maintenance​/Cleaning

Job Overview

Maintain a clean, orderly, and attractive environment across patient areas, offices, clinics, and other assigned areas under close supervision. Perform repetitive housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, sanitizing, and waste removal to support patient care and facility cleanliness.

• Maintain a cleaning cart in an orderly condition and ensure it is fully stocked with required cleaning supplies.
• Remove all waste including regular rubbish, cardboard, recyclable paper, and hazardous material.
• Use appropriate chemicals and tools to dust, damp disinfect floors, corners, and baseboards; post "Wet Floor" signs when mopping.
• Empty ashtrays, wastebaskets, and other receptacles; wipe clean with appropriate chemical and replace liners.
• Clean and disinfect public, private, and patient room bathrooms, replenish supplies as needed.
• Replenish all supplies (soap, toilet paper, paper towels).
• Disinfect patient rooms and prepare vacant beds for new admissions.
• Transport linen hampers to pickup areas and replace full linen bags.
• Perform project work such as wall washing, cubicle changing, cleaning waste containers, and window washing.
• Damp dust, polish, and disinfect furniture, phones, horizontal surfaces; vacuum carpets and upholstery.
• Set up furniture, audio‑visual equipment, and general cleaning before or after functions.
• Operate heavy‑duty cleaning equipment: wet vacuum, extractors, floor machines, buffers, upholstery shampooer, dry vacuum, and auto scrubbers.
• Collect and dispose needle boxes per department procedures.
• Report equipment problems, complete daily inspections, and follow Infection Control Practices.
• Perform cleaning and sanitization of Operating Rooms when assigned.

• One (1) year of related housekeeping experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Location:

Lowell General Hospital – 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA.

Hours:

32 hours per week; various shifts; every other weekend (Saturday‑Sunday) and every other holiday required.

Pay Range: $17.00 – $20.02 per hour.
