Environmental Services Aide III

Under the direction of the Supervisor/Site Manager, the ES Worker performs a variety of housekeeping and administrative tasks, assists in the supervision of housekeeping employees, coordinates daily tasks, maintains a clean and safe environment, conducts room inspections, schedules floor care, and covers shift positions as needed.

Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus – 1 Hospital Drive, Lowell, MA

Full‑time, 40 hours – Evening Shift: 3:00pm‑11:30pm, every other weekend (Saturday–Sunday) and every other holiday required.

• One (1) year of related experience.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of related experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Bilingual skills.

• Complete weekly projects as designated by the supervisor.
• Coordinate all project work assigned by management for shift(s) and communicate progress to other shift leads.
• Report any equipment problems to supervisor.
• Ensure employees have necessary supplies to complete tasks.
• Follow proper procedures for infection control, chemical control, hazardous waste disposal, and handling.
• Follow work safety practices and body mechanics.
• Perform beginning and end of shift check‑in, and round through facility.
• Operate heavy‑duty electrical equipment: wet vacuums, extractors, buffers, floor machines, auto scrubbers, upholstery machines, pressure washers, and upright vacuums.
• Participate in accurate inventory and record keeping for laundry services, notifying manager when supplies are needed.
• Perform other duties as required (e.g., marking linen; cleaning linen areas; washing/drying mops, rags, lab coats, cubicle curtains, kitchen linens, etc.).
• Assist with functions: setting up furniture, distributing and setting up audio‑visual equipment, and general cleaning before or after functions.
• Successfully complete competency assessment and answer policy questions while on the job.
• Work in open positions when necessary to assure adequate coverage.
• Allocate resources to provide coverage throughout the facility.
• Conduct quality‑insurance inspections and ensure corrective action as required based on minimum QA score.
• Coordinate and execute small furniture moves and room setups in a timely manner.
• Conduct monthly employee safety committee meetings and monthly department safety inspections.
• Maintain composure and professionalism during difficult situations.

• Stand, walk, bend, and stretch for the majority of shift.
• Push heavy loaded carts and lift between 30–60 lbs.
• Occasional climbing of ladders.
• Frequent exposure to dirt, dust, blood, body waste, and contaminated waste.
• Exposure to climate conditions when depositing trash in compactor.
• Possibility of cuts and needle punctures.
• Occasional exposure to hazards that may cause serious injury/illness (e.g., T.B., hepatitis, rodent bites).
• Non‑patient areas pose minimal hazards.
• Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation for prescription medications and computer keyboard.

• Read simple instructions, write, and speak basic English.
• Operate simple mechanical devices such as floor roters, vacuums, compactors, etc.
• Familiarity with operation of heavy‑duty, electrical cleaning equipment.
• Interact with hospital staff, visitors, and patients in a friendly, cooperative manner.
