CCSL, a K–12 public charter school serving approximately 1,200 students in Lowell, MA, is hiring an Assistant Director of Facilities with a specialty in construction and carpentry to work the second shift. This is a hands‑on role for a skilled tradesperson ready to step into facilities leadership — you’ll swing a hammer on renovation projects one day and manage contractors, custodial operations, staff, and budgets the next.
If you love building things, take pride in a well‑run, well‑maintained building, and want your work to directly support a school community, we want to hear from you.
- Lead carpentry and construction work on classroom conversions, buildouts, and renovation projects — framing, finish carpentry, cabinetry, drywall, flooring, and more
- Serve as the school’s in‑house construction lead, coordinating with architects and general contractors on larger capital projects
- Oversee day‑to‑day facilities operations: preventive maintenance, work orders, building systems, and grounds
- Manage vendor relationships, contractor bids, and facilities budgets
- Ensure all work meets Massachusetts building code, safety, and ADA standards
- Help the Assistant Director of Facilities/Custodial Operations supervise, schedule, and coach the custodial team across evening and summer shifts
- Help the Assistant Director of Facilities/Custodial Operations set and maintain cleaning and sanitation standards across classrooms, common areas, cafeterias, and athletic spaces
- Help keep the building safe and compliant with OSHA and Massachusetts health/safety standards
- 5+ years of hands‑on carpentry, construction, or skilled trades experience
- Ability to read blueprints and manage a project from scope to completion
- Working knowledge of MA building codes and OSHA safety standards
- Valid driver's license; ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in varied physical conditions
- Ability to pass a CORI/SORI background check (required for MA school employment)
Nice to have: trade certification or apprenticeship completion, OSHA 10/30, prior school/municipal facilities experience, HVAC/electrical/plumbing familiarity, knowledge of commercial cleaning standards, sanitation protocols, and safe chemical handling, bilingual ability (Spanish, Portuguese, or Khmer).
Why CCSLJoin a school in an exciting growth chapter — CCSL is investing in its buildings and grounds as part of a five‑year push toward top‑50 Massachusetts school status. Full benefits package including health/dental insurance, retirement plan participation, paid time off, and the school holiday schedule.
To ApplySubmit a resume, cover letter, and three professional references. CCSL is an equal opportunity employer.
