Position: Safety Representative - Lyons Electric Company

About Us

We are a full-service electrical construction, maintenance, and design-build firm. We have worked on thousands of projects ranging from commercial tenant improvements and high-rise developments to high-voltage distribution and railroad lighting systems.

Job Summary

The Safety Representative for this electrical project is the full-time, site-based safety resource supporting Lyons & Pinner's work on a large-scale data center construction project in Wheatfield, Indiana.

Reporting to the Safety Director, this position partners with project leadership, foremen, employees, subcontractors, the general contractor, and customer representatives to implement and enforce applicable company, project, owner, and regulatory requirements.

Success requires strong field presence, practical electrical-safety knowledge, sound judgment, and prompt follow-through. The representative is authorized to pause work when a serious or imminent hazard is identified and to coordinate corrective action before work resumes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain a visible safety presence across assigned work areas during active operations; coach employees and supervisors, reinforce accountability, recognize safe performance, and address unsafe acts or conditions promptly.

Apply OSHA construction standards, NFPA 70E, company policies, and project or owner requirements; communicate changes and translate requirements into practical field controls.

Conduct routine field observations, inspections, and audits; document findings, assign corrective actions, verify timely closeout, and elevate unresolved or high-risk issues.

Review job hazard analyses, pre-task plans, Safety Task Assignments, permits, and work plans before work begins, with attention to electrical energization, lockout/tagout, ground disturbance, work at height, lifting, mobile equipment, and hot work.

Support electrical safety planning and execution, including qualified-person requirements, MOPs, safety zones, current one-line diagrams, arc-flash boundaries and PPE, energized-work controls, and lockout/tagout verification.

Coordinate project orientation, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and task-specific training; verify employee qualifications, competent-person designations, and training or certification records.

Lead or support response to injuries, near misses, vehicle or property damage, and emergencies; complete timely notifications and investigations, identify root causes, and track corrective and preventive actions.

Maintain accurate site safety records and required digital submissions, and participate in planning meetings, site walks, safety committees, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Support emergency preparedness, fit-for-duty, heat and cold stress, industrial hygiene, housekeeping, PPE, and other site programs as conditions require.

Qualifications

3-5 years of progressive construction safety experience, including direct support of electrical construction activities.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction card and current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, NFPA 70E, electrical safe-work practices, lockout/tagout, and common high-risk construction controls.

Demonstrated ability to recognize hazards, exercise stop-work authority, influence field teams, and drive corrective actions to closure.

Strong written and verbal communication, organization, documentation, and interpersonal skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital project systems.

Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate effectively with employees, trade partners, customers, and project leadership.

Valid driver's license and ability to report consistently to the assigned project site and other field locations as business needs require.
