The role — what you'll actually be doingYou'll be the primary field technician and on‑site leader for One Hour of North Rockford. In practical terms, that means you run service calls, represent the brand in the field, and set the standard for how this operation operates day‑to‑day. As we grow and add technicians, you'll transition into a true Field Supervisor role — coaching new hires, managing job quality, and sharing in the financial upside of the team you help build.
This is not a role where you punch in, run calls, and go home. It's a role where your judgment, professionalism, and technical expertise directly shape the reputation and trajectory of a new business in this market.
Key responsibilitiesDiagnose and repair residential HVAC systems — furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless systems, humidifiers, air purification, zoning systems, and packaged units
Educate customers clearly on system condition, present 2–3 solution options, and close service recommendations with integrity — no pressure tactics, ever
Represent the One Hour brand in every customer interaction: on‑time arrival, clean uniform, floor savers in the home, spotless vehicle, and professional communication
Debrief each call accurately with dispatch; complete documentation and invoicing to standard
Promote and sell Club Membership™ plans to build recurring revenue and long‑term customer relationships
As team grows: supervise and schedule field personnel, conduct ride‑along, evaluate technician performance, and provide hands‑on technical coaching
Ensure OSHA compliance and safe practices on every job site
Participate in all company‑sponsored and Success Academy® training programs
Provide weekly field input to ownership on operational improvements, equipment needs, and customer patterns
Required qualifications5+ years of hands‑on residential HVAC service and repair experience
EPA 608 Universal certification
Valid Illinois driver's license and clean driving record
Ability to pass background check and drug screen
Strong customer communication skills — you can explain a heat exchanger crack to a homeowner without talking down to them
Personal hand tools required for the trade
Preferred — not deal‑breakersNATE certification (or willingness to test — we pay for it)
Illinois HVAC master license or working toward it
Experience with ductless / mini‑split systems
Service Titan or similar dispatch/CRM experience
Prior supervisory or lead tech experience
Manufacturer certifications (Carrier, Trane, Lennox, etc.)
Growth & opportunity — what being first actually meansYou set the service standard. The way you run calls today becomes the playbook for every technician hired after you.
You have a direct line to ownership. No chain of command between you and the person making decisions — your input matters and gets used.
Your income scales with the team. The override commission structure means your earning potential grows every time a new technician joins — you're not capped at what you can do alone.
Clear path to Field Supervisor. As volume grows, the supervisory role formalizes — with the compensation structure to match.
Certifications and licensing are funded. If you want to advance your credentials, we back it financially.
Why One Hour — and why this role over a bigger shopYou are not a number. We have one dispatcher and one open field role. Ownership knows your name, your goals, and your callout list by heart — because that's the size of this team right now.
National brand, local decisions. One Hour's "Always on Time or You Don't Pay a Dime" guarantee puts homeowners at ease before you arrive. But all operational decisions are made locally — you have a voice in how things run.
No high‑pressure sales quotas. One Hour's model is built on options and education, not closing scripts or pressure tactics. You present choices and let homeowners decide — and you still earn well doing it that way.
Your truck is ready. Your tools are covered. Your phone is on us. No out‑of‑pocket nickel‑and‑diming for equipment you need to do the job right.
The commission structure scales with you. As we add techs, your override income grows. Most shops give you a raise — we give you a stake in the team's performance.
A system, not a guess. One Hour and Authority Brands give us access to dispatch tools, training infrastructure, marketing support, and operational playbooks that would take an independent shop a decade to build. We're starting with a foundation, not from scratch.
Ready to be the one who builds this? We're interviewing now and moving quickly we launch in approximately two weeks. If you have the skills and you're looking for something more than a paycheck at a place that doesn't know your name, we'd like to talk.
