Job Goal: To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, work, and develop.
Qualifications- High School diploma or GED preferred
- Valid Alabama driver's license
- 18 years of age
- Other alternatives acceptable as determined by the Board

Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.
Skills and Abilities
- Good knowledge of tools, materials and methods to safely perform the work required connected with resurfacing and shampooing floors.
- Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
- Knowledge of general cleaning practices.
- Ability to perform simple mathematics.
- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, walk, carry and reach overhead.
- Ability to do grounds keeping and minor maintenance.
- Ability to follow written or oral instructions.
- Ability to supervise summer workers.
- Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions and temperatures.
- Ability to observe and report needs for maintenance and supplies.
- Ability to get along with students, teachers and the general public.
- Ability to climb and work from ladders or scaffolds, and moving furniture, textbooks and supplies.
- Adequate strength and dexterity to perform all tasks including lifting, stooping and bending.
- Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean.
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Sweeps, mops, and/or vacuums classrooms, locker rooms, bathrooms, etc. daily and dusts furniture.
- Strips, waxes, and buffs floors as directed.
- Scrubs, hoses down and disinfects toilets and floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when condition requires it.
- Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least once a year, and more frequently if necessary.
- Makes minor repairs and performs maintenance duties as needed.
- Reports needs for major repairs promptly to the principal.
- Reports immediately to the principal any damage to the school property.
- Remains on the school premises during established work hours, and during non‑school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the principal.
- Attends work on a regular basis.
- Reports work‑related injuries as required.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and before leaving, ensuring that all doors and windows are secured, and turning off all lights, except those left on for safety reasons.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment, and requisitions needed replacements from the principal in a timely manner.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Complies with appropriate laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
- Maintains acceptable health and safety standards regarding the use of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, etc.
- Adheres to rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties within the scope of his or her employment as may be assigned.
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non‑probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
