Job Goal:

- High School diploma or GED preferred
- Valid Alabama driver's license
- 18 years of age
- HVAC knowledge preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Good knowledge of power tools, materials, and methods to safely perform required tasks
- Groundskeeping and minor maintenance
- Follow written and oral instructions
- Maintain good interpersonal relationships
- Work outdoors in varied conditions
- Report needs for maintenance and supplies
- Positive interaction with students, teachers, and public
- Climb and work from ladders or scaffolds
- Move furniture, supplies, and materials
- Physical dexterity and strength for stooping, climbing, lifting heavy weights, reaching, and performing essential functions
- General knowledge of HVAC, painting, plumbing, electrical, engine repair, locks and doors, power tools, and other required skills
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for temperature adequacy and economical usage
- Check daily that all exit doors function properly
- Prioritize repairs and general building maintenance inside and outside
- Examine school building and grounds for safety, repair, and maintenance needs
- Complete requests for repairs or projects
- Request assistance for repairs or projects beyond school capabilities
- Replace light bulbs and clean light covers as needed
- Take care of security system during day and after hours, responding to emergency calls as directed
- Order materials and supplies for repairs and general maintenance
- Move furniture, supplies, and materials as needed
- Assist with custodial duties as needed
- Assist with athletic facilities as needed
- Assume other reasonable duties assigned by the immediate supervisor(s)
- Be on call 7 days a week, 24 hours a day for emergencies that may threaten school property or equipment
- Oversee heating and cooling systems
- Maintain fire safety records as required
- Perform other duties within the scope of employment as may be assigned
- Subject to Students First Act of 2011; transfer may fill position
- No credit toward tenure or non‑probationary status earned in initial year if hire after September 30
Expected Employment: 240 days/8 hrs. (full year)
Evaluation:
According to established Board policies, administrative procedures, and guidelines.
Salary:
According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule. Up to 10 years experience counted if documentation provided.
