Position: Part-time Grain Elevator Scale / Probe Operator

Job Overview

Part‑time barge loading operations in Madison. This as‑needed role supports scale and probe functions for grain grading and testing.

Responsibilities
  • Weighing trucks in/out, taking grain samples, grading grain, recording information, and other duties as assigned.
  • Perform strong customer service and build professional relationships with company customers.
  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program, attend daily pre‑shift meetings, and participate in Food Safety and Quality Programs where applicable.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable) and wear appropriate PPE.
  • Identify inbound trucks, weigh in trucks, record information, and take samples where applicable.
  • Perform appropriate tests required for the grading of specific grains.
  • Electronically record information (grades, splits, weights, etc.).
  • Direct trucks to the appropriate location and weigh out empty trucks accurately.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with customers to keep the truck line moving.
  • Complete documentation timely, accurately and legibly.
  • Label and store samples according to facility protocol.
  • Perform general clean‑up including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting and other housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Assist with ground piles, cleaning bins, rail duties, etc., as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience:

    None required. Preferred – 1 year’s experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
  • License/Certification:
    Grain grader and/or weighing certificate. If not obtained before hire, must obtain within applicable time.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of computers and software.
  • Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Strong multitasking skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow direction and use logical thought process to interpret oral and written instructions and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to remain focused on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
Physical Demands & Requirements
  • Ability to balance constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to bend and stoop occasionally; bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel and squat (constantly/continuously) frequently.
  • Ability to climb stairs, where applicable.
  • Ability to concentrate on task without becoming distracted, constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to distinguish grade, color, odor and various damage characteristics in grain samples, where applicable.
  • Ability to distinguish, with a degree of accuracy, differences or similarities in intensity or quality odors, or recognizing particular odors, using nose.
  • Ability to enter information into a computer (observations, other computers).
  • Ability to grasp and reach constantly/continuously and communicate verbally, in person and over two‑way radio.
  • Ability to grasp and reach frequently.
  • Ability to lift 3 lb. samples above the shoulder, frequently, where applicable.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull 50 lbs. occasionally to continuously depending on daily needs of location.
  • Ability to meet requirement of and utilize all applicable PPE, when applicable.
  • Ability to meet requirements of PFT and fit testing, when applicable.
  • Ability to perform work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand and walk constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to stand or sit constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to understand and communicate verbally, in person and over two‑way radio (and recognize emergency alarms).
  • Ability to understand and communicate written instructions.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekend, holidays and/or alternate shifts as needed.
  • Ability to work in an environment with high dust levels.
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • Acutely aware of surroundings with ability to quickly adjust to a signal or change in environment.
  • Uses near, far and peripheral vision and depth perception for task(s) being performed; may need to identify problems with grain.
Compensation

The expected base pay range for this role is: $16.00 - $25.00. Actual pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including work location, job‑related knowledge, skills and relevant experience for the job.
