Position Overview:

It is the role of an Ingalls Pipefitter, a crucial member who supplies the lifeblood of our nation’s military vessels. In the volatile shipboard environment—containing fuel, steam, ventilation, hydraulic, chemical, heating, and cooling systems—pipe fitters must demonstrate the highest level of skill and safety.

An Ingalls Pipefitter (or Journeyman Pipefitter) is responsible for fitting pipes made of steel, galvanized steel, copper, copper-nickel, and stainless steel along with the appropriate valves and fittings. The work is performed using specialized tools and equipment in accordance with drawings, arrangements, and blueprints. Shipyard production areas may require work at different heights, in confined spaces, in varied weather conditions, and over multiple 24‑hour shifts.

Safety procedures that meet or exceed industry standards are strictly followed.

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must have completed a craft skills training program or have previous experience
• Must be willing to work any shift
