About the Agency:
The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs:
Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). Services also include support through Assistive Technology, the Office of Business Development, Office on Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and much more. About the Position:
The Building Operations and Maintenance Supervisor performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, groundskeeping, fleet maintenance, and support services necessary for the operation of MDRS facilities and equipment. This position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of agency buildings, grounds, fleet vehicles, and related equipment while ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment for employees, clients, and visitors.
The incumbent must possess strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform multiple types of maintenance and repair work with minimal supervision. Work may involve physical labor, operation of equipment, travel, and assistance with various agency support functions as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Building and Facility Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on agency facilities and building systems.
- Assist in maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
- Assist with elevator inspections, maintenance coordination, and minor repairs as appropriate.
- Perform basic electrical repairs, including replacing outlets, switches, light fixtures, bulbs, and ballasts.
- Perform basic plumbing repairs, including repairing leaks, replacing fixtures, clearing drains, and maintaining restroom facilities.
- Conduct preventative maintenance activities to ensure facility systems remain operational.
- Repair walls, doors, windows, flooring, ceilings, and other building components as needed.
- Assemble, install, move, and repair office furniture, equipment, and furnishings.
- Assist with office relocations, furniture moves, and transportation of supplies and equipment.
- Collect and remove trash and debris from agency facilities as required.
- Maintain facility cleanliness and appearance both inside and outside agency buildings.
- Grounds Maintenance
- Maintain agency grounds, landscaping, and outdoor areas.
- Operate commercial lawn maintenance equipment, including:
Zero-turn mowers, Riding mowers, String trimmers (weed eaters), Leaf blowers, Commercial shredders and chippers, Edgers and related equipment. - Mow grass, trim vegetation, prune shrubs, remove debris, and perform seasonal grounds maintenance.
- Assist with irrigation, landscaping improvements, and beautification projects.
- Maintain parking lots, sidewalks, and exterior areas to ensure safety and appearance.
- Fleet Maintenance and Equipment Operations
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on agency fleet vehicles.
- Monitor vehicle conditions and coordinate necessary repairs and servicing.
- Maintain records related to fleet maintenance activities.
- Assist with cleaning, fueling, and preparing vehicles for agency use.
- Operate agency trucks, trailers, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Transport equipment, supplies, furniture, and materials between agency locations as needed.
