Job Summary:
The Facility Operator is responsible for supporting daily operations related to shipping, mail services, transportation, maintenance, and supplies at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID) building, while also fostering strong working relationships with occupants, vendors, and maintenance teams.
This role ensures smooth facility operations by coordinating services, maintaining accurate documentation, and delivering exceptional customer service. From managing the flow of shipments to supporting daily building activity, you'll be at the center of the action every day! The Facility Operator reports to the Facility Operations Manager within the Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M).
In this role you would:
* Deliver packages and mail to designated locations throughout the facility.
* Operate loading dock equipment safely and efficiently.
* Conduct routine building inspections and report issues as needed.
* Document all incoming shipments and maintain accurate daily records.
* Assist and coordinate with on-site vendors and service providers.
* Recommend improvements, update procedures, and track resources related to loading dock operations and overall facility functionality.

Full-Time: 100% FTE
Hours generally scheduled Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM- 3:30 PM. Occasional nights, weekends and holidays may be required for this position. Work is performed onsite.

Job Responsibilities:
* Escalates and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
* Sets up and tears down equipment for institutional meetings and events
* Utilizes basic equipment to repair and maintain basic machinery, equipment, and facility property under close supervision to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
* Assists with routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
* Assists with inventory and distribution of deliveries to appropriate entities under close supervision
* Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed

Compensation:
Minimum $21.00 (Hourly)
The starting hourly rate for the Facility Operator position is $21.00, but it is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
* At least two (2) years of experience in a related field; including but not limited to facility operations, building maintenance, shipping and receiving, customer service, and dock operations
* Ability to maintain positive, professional communications with a variety of customers
* Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, organization, and strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience with inventory tracking
* Experience with mail/shipping and receiving
* General computer skills
* Experience with frontline customer service support
Education:
Required;
High School Diploma or GED
