Custodians are essential to the daily success of the university, supporting teaching, learning, research, and events by ensuring that campus spaces are cared for with pride and professionalism. We are currently recruiting for 2nd and 3rd shifts, offering opportunities to contribute to campus life at various times of day.
The Custodian position performs a variety of custodial tasks necessary for the routine cleaning and maintenance of university buildings. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas; emptying trash and recycling containers; and moving furniture and equipment to support cleaning needs and campus activities. Custodians also play an important role in observing and reporting maintenance or safety concerns to help maintain high standards across campus.
This role requires moderately heavy physical effort, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and moving furniture, equipment, and supplies. Occasional overtime may be required to assist with snow removal or emergency cleanup. Work is performed under the guidance of a Custodial Services Supervisor and in collaboration with a supportive team committed to service excellence.

We are hiring for the following shifts:
- 2nd shift:
Monday-Friday, 5:00pm- 1:30am or Monday
- Friday, 6:00pm- 2:30am
- 3rd shift:
Sun
- Thurs: 10:30pm- 7:00am
Key
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
- Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
- Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
- Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
- Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed

Compensation:
$17.00 per hour
-Plus an additional $2.50 per hour for night hours worked (6pm-6am).
-Plus an additional $0.80 per hour for weekend hours worked.
-Plus time and a half per hour for hours worked on designated legal holidays.
Current UW-Madison employees may be eligible to be hired up to their current rate of compensation, based on qualifications.
