Limited Term Employee (LTE) County Parks Maintenance Crew II

We have vacancies for the limited term employee (LTE) County Parks Maintenance Crew II position. LTEs are limited to 1,200 hours in a payroll year and are not guaranteed any hours per week. For the 2026 budget year, there is a 1% reduction in wages reflected in the hourly wage above.

Under the direct supervision of the Parks Operations Manager and general supervision from full‑time crew members, perform a variety of grounds and facility maintenance tasks at Dane County Parks.
Examples of Duties- Mowing, string trimming, tree trimming, planting and mulching, trail maintenance and snow removal.
- Facility repair and maintenance: cleaning, washing, painting and assisting with building repairs.
- Operate and maintain commercial type mowers, trimmers, light and heavy‑duty vehicles and trailers, skid‑steers and larger loaders.
- Provide information and assistance to the public when approached in the field.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Applicants requiring a CDL must pass drug/alcohol testing after a conditional offer of employment has been made.
- All CDL holders must be registered in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Registration is available at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..
- Completion of the Wisconsin ATV/OHM Safety Course preferred.
Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting. Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position’s responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant’s criminal history. Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.
Bilingual Positions* If applicable, individuals may confirm with the Employee Relations Division whether results of bilingual language certifications/examinations they currently hold qualify them for the position’s bilingual designation.
Physical and Environmental Work Requirements- Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Perform manual labor including repetitive lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling and squatting.
- Ability to string trim for four hours at a time.
- Work primarily outdoors in varying terrains and harsh temperature conditions.
- Ability to operate and maintain equipment and tools including light and heavy‑duty vehicles and trailers, skid‑steers and larger loaders, large driving mowers, and various hand and power tools such as chainsaws.
- Ability to communicate tactfully with the public and work independently from oral and written directions.
