Job Summary:

We are in search of Assistant Supervisors to join our Building Services Supervisor team in University Housing Facilities! This is a supervisory role that leads and oversees the work of Facilities Technicians and Custodial staff, ensuring facilities are properly maintained for residence hall, dining, and other housing locations.

This position provides coverage for the supervisor as needed, responds to emergencies, modifies and executes adjusted work plans for the day, inspects cleanliness of resident, public, and staff‑facing spaces, conducts performance reviews, follows up with full‑time employees, and addresses any concerns residents and customers have each day. It ensures our ability to meet life/safety requirements, maintain appropriate customer service levels and has partial cleaning responsibilities that help cover all daily responsibilities of the unit workload.

Qualified candidates possess previous custodial or maintenance experience. Previous leadership or supervisory experience is a plus!

Work Schedule:
  • The primary schedule for these positions is between the following hours.
    • 1st Shift: 7:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday – Friday (some weekends)
  • Schedule will be set with selected finalist(s) at time of offer. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables.
  • Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
  • Assists in the development, scheduling, inspection, and supervision of operational work plans and/or staff for an assigned unit.
  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances, reports issues to appropriate entities.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of facility emergency and hazardous response policies and procedures.
  • Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed.
  • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs.

Housing Facilities is part of the Division of University Housing at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Our team is responsible for the full spectrum of two distinct facilities operations, which include housekeeping, mechanical maintenance, infrastructure repairs and renewal, and long‑term capital planning, for both undergraduate students and graduate students and their families living with us. As a student service organization, Housing Facilities advances the university’s mission by delivering safe, well‑maintained living and learning environments.

Residence Halls consists of 30 buildings and 2 million square feet, housing approximately 8,000 undergraduate students during the academic year and welcoming more than 18,000 conference and program guests each summer. Other operations support classrooms, office spaces, dining, marketplace venues, meeting rooms, and event spaces.

University Apartments provides housing to an average of 2,500 residents in 1,240 apartments, serving a diverse community of graduate students, staff, and their families. The community is located on over 80 acres of green space and includes a large community center with a housing‑operated licensed early childhood education program.

While most front‑line staff and supervisors receive a primary unit location, the facilities team remains flexible to support one another and operations throughout the year.

Compensation:

The starting hourly wage is $23.00 or higher based on qualifications with a competitive retirement and benefits package, including vacation, holidays, and paid time off. Additional pay is available for nighttime work (6:00 pm to 6:00 am) and weekends: $2.50/hour for nighttime weekdays, up to $2.50/hour for daytime weekend work, and up to $3.30/hour for nighttime weekend work.
