Custodial Worker I - Cherokee - 1.0 FTE - 26-27 SY

Building Services – Cherokee Middle – 26-27 Salary Schedule – $28.28/hour – Non‑Exempt – Full Time (1.0 FTE)

Job Overview:
Under general supervision, performs custodial services required to maintain assigned school buildings and adjacent ground areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Works Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:00 AM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks aligned to District standards for various interior/exterior building fixtures, including all flooring, restrooms, ceilings, and wall surfaces in classrooms, hallways, gyms, offices, cafeterias, and nurse stations, as well as removing all trash and recycling.
  • Refill necessary supplies, including paper products, throughout the building, including custodial carts and storage areas.
  • Assist in loading and unloading building deliveries.
  • Process room moves and teacher requests.
  • Set up, take down, and clean building events and permit holders.
  • Perform minor preventive maintenance such as lamp replacement, dispenser installation, custodial equipment repairs, locker, window latch, and door hinge repairs.
  • Perform outdoor duties including trash pickup, landscaping, mowing, string trimming, snow removal, ice removal, salting, sanding, and other seasonal maintenance.
  • Carry out safety and security duties: reporting hazards, arming systems, security checks, turning out lights, locking all windows and doors.
  • Communicate information and receive requests from staff, the public, and students.
  • Provide quality customer service and communication to support staff and students.
  • Dress appropriately per Employee Handbook section 3.29, with Photo .
  • Work varied shifts as assigned as needed.
  • Review, enter and sign off tasks for completion (e.g., work orders, preventative maintenance) in EAM.
  • Carry and respond to any assigned district‑provided communication devices (phones, radio).
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Follow oral and written instructions and prioritize tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with school district personnel, students, and community.
  • Lead others and share knowledge related to job duties.
  • Communicate clearly in English for emergency response situations.
  • Learn and navigate current software.
  • Use cleaning materials, solutions, and procedures appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of custodial trainee program.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience working cross‑culturally and/or commitment to cultural competence.
  • Experience working independently, in teams, and leading others.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

This job is physically demanding – medium to heavy work. Requires constant standing, walking, moving, pushing, pulling loads up to 70+ pounds, frequent bending, stooping, lifting up to 75 pounds, walking on uneven surfaces, ladder and stair climbing to 10 feet, crawling, reaching, kneeling, repetitive movement. Verbal and auditory communication frequently used. Near and far vision acuity, depth perception, accommodation, field of vision, and feeling utilized.

Working

Conditions

May require travel within the district and to off‑site meetings. May require working evenings, nights, weekends. School‑based positions are required to be in‑person unless otherwise directed by the building principal.
