Job SummaryUniversity Housing Facilities is looking for Custodian Leads to join our team. Custodian Leads assist in keeping University Housing spaces safe and clean for residents, staff, and guests. They also coordinate tasks, provide leadership, and assist with training new staff members. We are a fast‑paced organization with high quality standards and work with residents, students, staff, and guests on the UW‑Madison campus.

- Communicate with residents and guests to address needs and service requests.
- Complete work in occupied or vacant residential, common area, and/or dining spaces.
- Demonstrate and role‑model exceptional customer service.
- Create, promote and participate in a collaborative team environment.
- Maintain and implement prescribed cleaning standards.
- Provide support and assist as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.
- Communicate in English via radio, written instruction, and in person with staff and supervisors.
- Assist with resident move‑in and move‑out operations.
- Perform snow removal tasks on community walkways and stairs.
- Monitor and communicate the performance of systems and staff within facilities.
- 1st Shift – typical schedule is 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, 8‑hour shifts, 40 hours per week.
- 2nd Shift – typical schedule is 3:00 pm to 1:30 am, 4 days per week, 10‑hour shifts, 40 hours per week, including rotating holidays and shifts every other weekend. Some flexibility may be possible.
Work schedule will be set with the selected finalist(s) at the time of offer. Schedule alterations may occur as operations and position expectations demand.
CompensationThe starting hourly wage is $18.91 or higher based on qualifications. Current UW‑Madison Custodian title employees may earn an additional $1.00 per hour, provided the total exceeds $18.91. University Staff earn additional pay for nighttime work (6:00 pm to 6:00 am) and weekends: $2.50/hour for nighttime weekdays, $2.50/hour for daytime weekends, and up to $3.30/hour for nighttime weekends.

Required Qualifications- English proficiency—ability to speak, read, write, and understand verbal instructions.
- Six months of custodial and/or cleaning experience within an academic, commercial, or other related environment.
- Leadership experience.
- Driver’s license – valid and meeting UW Risk Management Standards (required for some positions).
High school diploma preferred.
