Job Summary

University Housing Facilities is seeking Custodian Leads to help maintain safe and clean living spaces for students, staff, and guests. Custodian Leads provide leadership, coordinate tasks, train new staff, and ensure high standards of cleanliness and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with residents and guests to address needs and service requests.
  • Complete work in occupied or vacant residential, common area, and dining spaces.
  • Exhibit exceptional customer service and serve as a role model.
  • Create, promote and participate in a collaborative team environment.
  • Maintain and implement prescribed cleaning standards.
  • Assist in emergency planning and execution of safety procedures.
  • Communicate in English via radio, written instruction, and in person with staff and supervisors.
  • Support resident move‑in/o‑out operations.
  • Perform snow removal on community walkways and stairs.
  • Monitor systems and staff performance.
Work Schedule

First Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm (40hours/week).

Second Shift: 3:00pm–1:30am, 4days/week (40hours/week), rotating holidays and weekends.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting hourly wage $18.91 or higher based on qualifications, with a competitive retirement and benefits package including vacation, holidays, and paid time off. Night and weekend differentials apply as described in the job posting.

Required Qualifications
  • English proficiency: spoken, read, written, and understand instructions.
  • At least 6 months custodial/cleaning experience in academic, commercial, or related environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience.
  • Valid driver’s license meeting UW Risk Management Standards.
  • High school diploma preferred.
