Job SummaryUniversity Housing Facilities is looking for Custodians to join our 1st and 2nd shift teams! We pride ourselves on providing great results for our customers and strive to be the place where everyone wants to work. Custodians at University Housing work together in teams to help keep spaces welcoming, safe, and clean for residents, staff, and guests.
Key Job Responsibilities- Communicate with residents and guests to address needs and service requests
- Complete work in occupied or vacant residence hall and dining spaces
- Demonstrate and role model exceptional customer service
- Promote and participate in a collaborative team environment
- Maintain and implement prescribed cleaning standards
- Provide support and assist as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency
- Maintain organization of supply areas and equipment, document inventory, and request additional supplies as needed
- Document and report repairs, violations, and pest control needs
- Utilize basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
- Assist residents and guests with event setup and take down
- Monitor and secure facility interior and exterior entrances, reporting issues to appropriate entities
- Prepare, service, and/or maintain residence hall and dining facilities for residents and guests
- Maintain clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
1st shift: 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, 8‑hour shifts, 40 hours per week. Some positions include scheduled shifts every other weekend.
2nd shift: 3:00pm - 1:30am, 4 days per week, 10‑hour shifts, 40 hours per week, including rotating holidays and shifts every other weekend.
Compensation$17.51 per hour, with additional $2.50 per hour for nighttime work (6:00pm - 6:00am) and up to $3.30 per hour for nighttime weekend work. Benefits include vacation, holidays, paid time off, competitive retirement and benefits package.
Preferred Qualifications- 3 months of previous cleaning, custodial, hospitality, or related experience
- 6 months of previous continuous employment
- English proficiency: ability to speak, read, write, and understand verbal instructions
- A valid driver's license that meets UW Risk Management standards
