Custodian - Evening Shift
Maine School Administrative District No. 33 is seeking a Custodian for the evening shift to perform general cleaning and maintenance in our school buildings and grounds, maintain equipment, and provide custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors, and others as needed.
Position FunctionJoin our facilities team as a Custodian on the evening shift, performing core custodial duties and general maintenance across school facilities.
Essential Functions- Check and secure the building at the beginning and end of the shift to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Clean rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas according to district standards.
- Sweep, mop, buff, strip, and wax floors.
- Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
- Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
- Remove graffiti and clean glass areas.
- Replace light bulbs.
- Set up and break down chairs, tables, and equipment in meeting rooms and functional rooms.
- Clear snow from entrances and walks, and spread sand and ice-melting chemicals.
- Perform grounds‑keeping duties, remove debris, and maintain grounds.
- Receive deliveries, assist in unloading trucks, and store supplies.
- Deliver supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms, and other areas of the building.
- Empty wastebaskets, pick up and remove trash, and assist in the recycling program.
- Perform general cleaning and repair work, especially during school vacations.
- Assist parents and other visitors during special events and programs.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Use hand tools and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mowers, district vehicles.
- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations for the proper use of tools and power equipment.
- Wear appropriate safety gear, including masks.
- Comply with the district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.
- Follow oral or written work orders from supervisor and coordinate work with principals and others.
- Read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Describe cleaning, maintenance, or repair problems orally or in writing as needed.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, staff, and others involved in work.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide basic units of measure.
- Work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Work above ground on ladders and automatic lifts.
- Perform work according to standard procedures and schedules set by supervisors.
- Work in standard office and school building environments.
- Work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
- Exposed to cleaning chemicals, solvents, contaminated trash, grasses, pollen, etc.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Maine background check (CHRC).
- Previous experience as a handyman, or general electrical, plumbing, or carpentry work.
