Staff Custodian FullTime

Berwick Academy, a PK-12 day school in South Berwick Maine seeks a full time responsible school custodian to maintain and protect our facilities. The ideal candidate will be experienced in this role focused on building up keep. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large and vast campus. A keen eye for detail and diligence are also imperative in this custodial maintenance position.

Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to the assurance that all academic and administrative spaces on campus be ready for the next academic day by mopping, sweeping and vacuuming as well as the removal of trash and recycling in all areas on campus. Other tasks include the washing and sanitizing of toilets, sinks and showers in our many locker rooms/restrooms and training facilities.

These duties will involve the restocking of disposables (i.e. paper products and sanitizers/soaps.) The wipe down of interior and exterior glass/mirrors are also an important part of the position. The knowledge to use and maintain industrial cleaning equipment and appliances are also a must. These pieces of equipment and tools include vacuums, brooms, mops, extractors, high speed buffers and auto scrubbers used for stripping, cleaning, buffing and applying floor finishes to hard surface floors as well as shampooing carpets.

The roles of this individual will extend into the assisting of facility related setups that include meetings, classrooms, conferences, events etc. In addition, there is the need to participate in snow removal operations as well. All tasks listed above will require the individual to lift heavy items of up to 50lbs up and down stairways and sidewalks. Some of these tasks may also require the flexibility/ability to work some weekends.

An important part of this role will also include securing the facilities after operating hours. This is accomplished by locking doors closing windows etc. in assigned buildings. This includes the reporting of unauthorized occupants. As an employee of the school there is the expectation that the individual will enforce and support the policies established by Berwick Academy and its facilities dept.

Berwick Academy is located approximately one hour north of Boston in the beautiful seacoast area of southern Maine. The Berwick Campus spans roughly 80 Acres and includes 10 academic buildings, 2 administrative as well as 5 residential structures. Our Student body commute from 68 communities that include the states of Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
