The Great Valley School District is seeking a dedicated and professional Maintenance Custodian to join our team. This position is responsible for performing custodial duties necessary to maintain the cleanliness, functionality, and safety of district building, grounds, and assigned equipment. The Maintenance Custodian supports overall facility operations and is expected to complete all tasks in an effective, timely, and professional manner.

This position is deemed essential personnel. Position: 12 months, 260 days (7:30–4:00, Monday through Friday). Salary Range: $44,000 - $52,000.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine cleaning and disinfecting of classrooms, offices, restrooms, locker rooms, corridors, and other assigned areas.
  • Maintain floors and surfaces, including waxing, polishing, and renewing floor finishes.
  • Dispose of waste and maintain cleanliness of doors, fixtures, window, and glass surfaces.
  • Apply general knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry to assist with basic maintenance tasks.
  • Remove snow and ice, relocate furniture and equipment, and maintain outdoor grounds including moving, trimming, and debris removal.
  • Support building security procedures and report safety concerns promptly.
  • Complete minor maintenance assignments such as replacing covers, ceiling tiles, filters, light bulbs, and ballasts.
  • Assist with supply distribution and loading/unloading of deliveries.
  • Maintain custodial equipment and ensure proper handling of chemicals and supplies.
  • Provide coverage in the absence of the Head Custodian and follow established task guidelines.
  • Identify and report deterioration of asbestos-containing materials as required.
  • Support event setup and cleanup and perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors and staff.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements

Able to communicate verbally. Work is performed primarily in an internal environment. Must be able to stand, crawl, crouch, and bend/twist from a stationary position for substantial periods of time. Able to walk for sustained periods of the workday throughout the school district. Able to hear with 40 decibel loss maximum and see with near acuity of 20 inches or less with normal depth perception, color vision, field of vision, and accommodation.

Climb to height of 10 feet or more, balancing on ladder, scaffolding, and catwalks. Exposure to various physical hazards and atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system and/or skin. Able to stoop repetitively and twist the body from a stationary position and reach. Able to push and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds and use fingers to pick, feel, reach, and grasp objects.

Lift up to 75 pounds with a height up to 30 inches on a repetitive basis. Dollies are available to assist with weights in excess of 75 pounds. May climb 12 feet stepladder occasionally to access high areas to clean, such as when washing windows. Requires use of both hands when operating scrubber/buffer machinery and when making repairs. May perform fine manipulation when making general repairs.
