Summary
This position is located in Manassas National Battlefield Park, in the Maintenance Program.
The typical seasonal entry‑on‑duty period is April-October but can vary during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated entry on duty:

DutiesThe major of the Maintenance Woker includes, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist journey‑level or other higher graded maintenance workers under general supervision in general landscaping and grounds maintenance: mow and trim lawn areas, remove weeds, sweep walks, remove trash, prepare landscaping beds.
- Assist in the performance of building maintenance work including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting exterior and interior surfaces: prepare surfaces for painting, select and use a variety of cleaning agents, mix and thin painting materials and select appropriate lumber type.
- Make simple measurements using tape measure and square.
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions to perform tasks. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for use of power tools and safety manuals on operation of tools and equipment.
- Perform custodial duties, cleaning (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash cans, cleaning restrooms).
Conditions of employment:
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Selected applicant will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- May be required to complete training and operate a four‑wheel drive vehicle.
- Required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
- May be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old with one of the following: (a) graduated from high school or equivalent; (b) completed a formal vocational training program; (c) received a statement from school authorities indicating preference for employment over continuing education; or (d) currently enrolled in a secondary school and working only during school vacation periods or part‑time under a formal student employment program.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job‑related factors:
- Work demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision (screen‑out).
- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
- Use of measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of materials.
- Technical practices.
- Work practices (including keeping things neat, clean and in order).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
EducationThere is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
