Are you someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating equipment, and taking pride in the upkeep of vital infrastructure that protects our community? The Lower Heart Water Board is seeking a dependable and skilled Facilities & Levee Maintenance Technician to help us maintain the integrity of our levee system and related facilities.

This part‑time role is ideal for a self‑starter who enjoys hands‑on work, appreciates variety in their day, and values serving their community in a meaningful way. Hours will vary based on seasonal needs and weather conditions.

What You’ll Do:

You'll work closely with the Lower Heart Water Board and key partners like the Corps of Engineers to:

  • Conduct annual inspections of the levee and confined spaces (manholes)
  • Maintain and operate valves, pumps, and motorized equipment (mower, skid steer, front‑end loader, etc.)
  • Patrol the dike for debris and safety concerns
  • Perform seasonal maintenance: mowing, trimming, weeding, snow removal, light repairs, and more
  • Keep accurate inventory and maintenance records
  • Ensure safe, compliant vermin control and pesticide application
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop and work areas

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Familiar with safety practices and able to assess risks
  • A clear communicator with a service‑minded approach
  • Independent, reliable, and attentive to detail
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid North Dakota Driver’s License
  • Experience in general maintenance or a related field preferred
  • North Dakota Commercial Applicator’s License (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally
  • Comfortable with confined space entry
  • Vision requirements include near and depth perception
  • Willingness to be on‑call during emergencies and weather events
