Job Description
This position exists to provide a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for the staff, faculty, students, and guests of Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.
- Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
- Knowledge of methods, tools and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
- Follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
- Keep simple records.
- Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
- Knowledge of the proper use of MSDS sheets, Right-to-Know regulations/Global Harmonization Standards (GHS), OSHA, Blood-borne Pathogen Standards, the proper use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), along with other safety practices required by local, state and federal regulations.
- Ability to work different shifts and flexibility to work overtime when needed.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
Special Work Conditions
- Work in a variety of adverse weather conditions.
- Work above ground level such as on ladders and scaffolding.
- Work in buildings after ventilation systems have been shut off.

Description of Duty:
Load/Unload Table Cart; 25-45lbs; 18lbs for moving cart;
Lift table (usually done with tow people)
Gym Floor Matting; 40-50lbs; 60lbs for moving cart, 10lbs for unrolling mat, 40-50lbs lifting mat;
Two people required to lift mats off cart. Must be positioned on floor and then rolled out.
Dust Mopping; 11lbs; 6lbs on dry floor, 12lbs on floor tracked with sand and salt;
Gym floors are dusted before, during and after events.
Snow Shoveling; 4lbs; 10-40lbs depending on weight of the snow;
Clean entries, sidewalks, and emergency exits (including 2nd floor exits).
Trash Remote (Brute Container); 25-50lbs; 2lbs to push/pull cart, weight of barrel will vary depending on the quantity and type trash;
Transport bags or trash from site to larger receptable (tilt truck).
Trash Removal; 285lbs; 23lbs push/pull;
Transport bags of trash from building to outdoor dumpster.
Bleacher gates; 50lbs;
Portable gates for bleachers that must be lifted into place and removed when bleachers are needed for an event. May require two people to lift.
Furniture; 100lbs; 70lbs;
Two people lifting. Two - three people pushing/pulling.
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
