Position
Janitor in the Housekeeping department. This on‑call position is located in Manteca, CA 95336 and reports to the Housekeeping Supervisor. It is a non‑exempt role.
Responsibilities- Vacuum and clean carpets according to established procedures and schedule.
- Dust, mop, wax, and polish floors in accordance with routine and deep‑cleaning schedules.
- Wash windows on a routine schedule.
- Clean lighting fixtures on a routine basis.
- Clean wheelchairs, shower chairs, barrels, and other equipment per the established schedule.
- Empty and re‑line waste containers; properly dispose of contents.
- Keep dumpster area clean and lids closed daily.
- Keep all entrances to the building clean daily.
- Clean janitor closets and buckets on a routine schedule.
- Secure janitor closet and cleaning chemicals.
- Promptly report any needed repairs to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
- Practice infection control and safety policies of the department and facility.
- Be courteous, considerate, and cooperative when communicating with all facility personnel, residents, and the public.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and disaster situations.
- Attend in‑service education and staff meetings as required.
- Demonstrate respect for the rights, dignity, and individuality of each resident in all interactions.
- Appreciate the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information.
- Demonstrate honesty and integrity at all times in the care and use of resident and facility property.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and well‑groomed appearance.
- Dependability is required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or equivalent (preferred).
- Janitorial experience in a long‑term care facility or institutional setting (preferred).
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information and to communicate verbally in English.
- Mathematical proficiency: add, subtract, multiply, and divide; handle units of weight and volume.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills; empathetic.
- Effective communication with patients, families, staff, and outside resources and agencies.
- Dependable and professional appearance, neatness, and grooming.
- Ability to comply with all regulatory and facility requirements, including annual TB screening and physical examination.
- Move intermittently throughout the workday.
- See, hear, or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately.
- Walk and stand for extended periods.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Perform continuous bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching.
- Bend, squat, stoop, pull, and push up to 25 pounds.
- Cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
Primarily inside work in normal temperatures; some noise, occasional fumes/odors, chemical exposure, and potential exposure to blood borne pathogens. Work occurs in an intimate, 24‑hour skilled care environment with disabled and cognitively impaired residents, involving weekend/holiday duty, emergency health or safety response, unusual resident behavior, family reactions, death and dying, oversight by state surveyors, and other variable medical staff involvement.
ComplianceMust follow HIPAA and be a mandated reporter regarding the suspicion of elder abuse and have access to Protected Health Information (PHI).
