Custodian - Maplewood Local Schools

Position

CUSTODIAN

Clean school building on a daily basis; prepare facility for the school operations, maintain entrance ways; perform all applicable custodial duties as assigned and those outlines in the job description.

• High School Diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.).
• One year related experience preferred.
• BCII/FBI.
• Those possessing or willing to attain CDL/bus driver certification are appreciated.
• Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.

• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Effective, active listening skills.
• Knowledge of appropriate safety procedures.
• Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings, and labels.
• Trained in the proper care and storage of chemicals, e.g., OHSA/PERRAC training.
• Knowledge of the care of materials, methods, and practices essential to proper cleaning of a facility.
• Knowledge of the care and proper use of sweepers, vacuum machines, mops, brushes, wax machines, cleaning fluids, and other cleaning materials and equipment.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently both orally and in writing.
• Organizational and problem solving skills.
• Trained in clean up and disposal of blood borne pathogens.
• Ability to learn proper use of materials, methods, and practices used in cleaning operations.
• Frequent requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and materials to a maximum of 60 pounds, e.g., unloading trucks, carrying copier paper, pushing trash cart, salt and pails, and snow removal.
• Painting skills preferred.
• Class B CDL license with school bus and passenger endorsement preferred, or the ability to obtain one.

• Complete paperwork as required by supervisor.
• Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and building occupants.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Exercise care I the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces.
• Maintain respect at all times with confidential information.
