Job Summary

Nutrition & Food Services Assistant – Retail.

Responsible for performing duties in a variety of areas which may include all or one of the following:

  • Retail – serving, prepping, cleaning, restocking, cashiering, while also demonstrating great customer service skills.
  • Tray Line – working on a patient tray assembly line, preparing patient meals within the specifications of the diet order and patient preferences.
  • Utility – safely transporting patient meal food carts to and from nursing units, warewashing of dishes, pots and pans; basic housekeeping of walls, floors, windows and equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Wash hands frequently and wear gloves appropriately.
  • Follow infection prevention practices, including personal hygiene expectations (i.e., fingernail length and finish), and report potential risks.
  • Maintain all work areas in a clean and organized manner; free of spills and fall hazards.
  • Monitor and record food and/or equipment temperatures; immediately correct or elevate out-of-range occurrences.
  • Store food and/or supplies using proper labeling, dating, and rotation methods.
  • Operate equipment according to safety guidelines and report any unsafe conditions (e.g., frayed electrical cords).
  • Follow the department work schedule (including weekends and holidays) and arrive at the workstation prior to task start time.
  • Set up, maintain, and break down the workstation according to area requirements.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and station responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Complete area checklists and forms.
  • Operate and care for equipment according to manufacturer’s and area‑specific guidelines.
  • Remain flexible to support other team members across the department to achieve desired service outcomes.
  • Follow work area’s uniform specifications; clothing and shoes are neat and clean.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to meet departmental goals and objectives.
  • Communicate respectfully and clearly.
  • Respect cultural traditions of team members and customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all Well Star Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred but not required).
  • Hospital food service experience and customer service experience (highly preferred).
  • Ability to communicate and understand spoken and written English language, and basic math skills.
