Position: Custodian

Location: In-Person, Marshall High School

FTE: 1.0 FTE, 40 Hours Per Week

Shift: 8 Hours Per Day
- Evening Shift, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM

Days of Work: Monday
- Friday

Weekend Work: Occasionally
- Rotating Schedule

Travel Required: No

Salary: $19.61 - $22.10 Per Hour

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Marshall Public Schools is seeking applications for the position of evening Custodian at Marshall High School.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Custodian performs general cleaning, disinfection, sanitization, repairs, and maintenance of school buildings, property, equipment, and facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Clean, sweep, dust, mop, scrub, vacuum, disinfect, and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, staff rooms, offices, hallways, floors, staircases, locker banks, and the Media Center; collect and dispose all trash daily, and ensure all areas are clean, tidy, and hygienic at all times
  • Monitor all cleaning supplies and equipment, and ensure they are always available and in good working order
  • Assist with setting up and taking down of chairs, tables, and other furniture and equipment required for meetings, assemblies, and special events during the school day, in the evenings, and on weekends
  • Efficiently unload and organize incoming freight deliveries
  • Assist with snow removal operations to ensure safe outdoor environments
  • Ensure that at the end of every school day all rooms, entrances, and exits are securely locked, and lights are shut off
  • Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of chemicals, stain removers, and general cleaning products and their application
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety standards and regulations
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain productivity with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of equipment
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions to perform tasks
  • Ability to use initiative when issues arise
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to Obtain a Boiler Operator's License within 1st year of employment
  • Some relevant experience is preferred but will train the right candidate

  • This role is classified as a safety‑sensitive position.
  • The regular work environment of this position is both in an indoor and outdoor setting, and the incumbent will be exposed to extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
  • Physical activities generally include frequent movement, including reaching, sitting, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, pulling, grasping, stooping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Incumbent will be required to stand for prolonged periods.
  • Will frequently be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of furniture or equipment, and may occasionally be required to lift and/or move items of up to 100 pounds.
  • Will be exposed to noise of machinery and equipment, as well as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Occasionally subjected to mechanical and electrical hazards, radiant energy, and bodily fluids. May occasionally be required to use protective devices such as a respirator and/or special clothing.
  • May be required to adjust regular schedule to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary or required to provide employee training, staff, and event coverage.
