Job Description

Custodial Services at the University of Tennessee at Martin is currently accepting applications for a custodian. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 5:00 PM – 1:00 AM (subject to change), 40 hours per week. This is a full‑time position with benefits.

• Perform a variety of custodial duties in support of classroom and administrative operations to create a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
• Pull trash and recycle.
• Clean and restock restrooms and perform general building cleaning.
• Change light bulbs.
• Maintain floor by stripping, waxing, dust mopping, wet mopping, scrubbing, buffing, vacuuming, and extracting carpets.
• Maintain sufficient custodial supplies for the assigned areas.
• Report safety concerns and/or maintenance issues to the immediate supervisor.
• Tear down tables and chairs after special events; sweep and clean bleachers after ball games.
• Assist with mowing duties when required.
• Custodians can be moved to another building at any time.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Reading, writing and communication skills; ability to interact positively with co‑workers.
• Physical condition conducive to performing labor tasks (e.g., bending, reaching overhead, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, climbing ladders up to twenty feet, operating power washer, buffers, vacuums, shampoo machines, and scrubbers).
• Good work and attendance record.

• Experience with custodial equipment, including operation and safety.
• Experience with the use and safety of cleaning chemicals.

Minimum hiring rate $14.00 per hour (Market Range 02). Salary commensurate with education and experience.
