At the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division at NAS Patuxent River, MD
, SA-TECH supports the Aircraft Instrumentation Division (AID) of the Prototyping, Experimentation, and Instrumentation (PIE) Department and we are currently looking to hire a General Technician II to repair, fabricate, modify and install sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies.
In this role, you will repair, fabricate, modify and install sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies. To be successful, you'll need a strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of the physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal, knowledge of tools and equipment required in the sheet metal trade, and knowledge of shop mathematics and principles.
You’ll perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed. You will select or adapt standard procedures or equipment using fully applicable precedents and receive initial instructions, equipment requirements and advice from a supervisor or engineers as needed. Recurring work will be performed independently and all work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.
Responsibilities- Work with engineers and customers to design/develop/install aircraft instrumentation systems.
- Fabricate, repair, and install aircraft instrumentation components and assemblies, including minor composite work, sheet metal, machining.
- Provide items to QA for inspection.
- Package items to be delivered or support installation of instrumentation package on aircraft.
Other tasks may be assigned to you as needed.
Work Conditions- Conditions will vary although most work will be performed in enclosed buildings and will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
- You must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted and 50-100 lbs. assisted by others.
- Working hours are 0530 to 1500 or .
- There may be a need to work flex working hours and overtime.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in performing the stated functions.
- Knowledge of the physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal.
- Skills and experience with structural modification of aircraft in an Intermediate or Depot level facility (nice-to-have).
- Skills and experience with airframe repairs using sheet metal and composite materials (must-have).

- U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
