In a team environment, The Facility Technician – Maintenance
performs skilled repair and maintenance of wastewater and/or water treatment systems, electrical/mechanical systems, remote facilities, lift stations and solids processing equipment. This position also performs associated administrative tasks in the maintenance of wastewater and/or water systems.
Essential Functions
Level I
- Observes safety regulations; wears required personal protective equipment including SCBA where required; follows and enforces recommended safety practices such as lock out/tag out procedures, confined spaces, traffic control, rigging, and others as established by OSHA and MOSHA
- Performs/Assists in the maintenance on a variety of Mechanical, Hydraulic, HVAC , Plumbing, Pneumatic, Conveyance and Fastening Systems
- Assists/Performs troubleshooting or replacement of a variety of mechanical equipment
- Learns and assists in maintaining instrumentation and electrical components, including but not limited to re-lamping, maintaining probes and repair of analyzers and meters where present
- Learns and assists in the acquisition of materials through purchasing, including the submittal of purchase requests and the maintenance of a local inventory of supplies by facility
- Learns and uses the Computerized Maintenance Management System ( CMMS ) for the monitoring of preventive maintenance schedules and the retrieval of work orders and learns and uses computerized process control systems, must also become familiar with applicable word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Become knowledgeable in VFD’s, soft starts, UPS’s, facility plans (Blueprints) and Standard Details, basic motor controls, common wiring devices, basic electrical applications and AC/DC circuits
- Become knowledgeable in the operations of plant/remote pumping stations including sampling, general treatment, the CWA and/or SDWA
- Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business

- Performs the operations and maintenance of High, Medium High, and Medium Voltage systems
- Become knowledgeable in the operations of plant/remote pumping stations including sampling, laboratory testing, general treatment, the CWA and/or SDWA , and basic process calculations
- Assist/Perform 3 phase and AC motor maintenance
- Disassembles and cleans pumps and other rotating equipment; disassembles and cleans valves; adjusts chains and belt drives; and generates work orders
- If hired into the Systems Control Division – Maintains system control valves such as PRVs, altitude valves, remote control valves, and backflow prev enters; work involves operating valves in the water distribution system as needed
- Establishes and maintains a positive customer service demeanor and effective working relationships with internal and external customers
- Assists/Performs advanced operational changes and make decisions to assure proper treatment including facility remote pumping station
- Provides technical guidance to the Facility Tech I level
