Job DescriptionThis is a working crew leader position. The employee, with technical supervision from the Supervisor of Operations is responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the assigned facility. Employee is responsible for building inspections five days per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Plans, assigns, trains and supervises the work of the other building custodians in cleaning and maintaining the school building and yard areas.
- Maintains necessary recordkeeping, prepares reports, requisitions, receives and maintains supplies and equipment inventory.
- Issues cleaning materials to custodial personnel and ensures at least a weekly custodial supply reserve.
- Cleans and performs preventative maintenance on grounds, maintenance equipment and other mechanical equipment as directed.
- Performs such custodial duties as, but not limited to, dusting; washing windows, doors, walls and woodwork; sweeping, dry and wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing and buffing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpets and painting.
- Cleans restrooms, classrooms, halls, offices, cafeteria, kitchen, locker rooms and all other areas of facility.
- Cleans and changes light fixtures and bulbs by climbing ladder if necessary.
- Assists in the unloading and moving of instructional and custodial supplies and foodstuff deliveries.
- Collects and disposes of refuse.
- Removes snow and sand/salts the walkways.
- Cuts grass and trim shrubbery by operating riding and push mowers and weed trimmer.
- Opens and secures building and checks for possible vandalism.
- Serves as the first responder to building alarms.
- Monitors building systems operations such as heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing equipment and reports necessary repairs to maintenance personnel.
- Notifies the principal of necessary repairs that are beyond the scope of custodial personnel and of any situation that endangers the security of building.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Maintenance Supervisor and Principal and Vice Principal of assigned building.
Directly supervises custodial employees in the assigned school or facility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
