Key Responsibilities
- Assign, train, and supervise all custodial personnel.
- Assist building principals with plant operation issues and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Advise on staffing needs and assist in procuring substitute custodians for each school as required.
- Provide necessary equipment and supplies to ensure efficient building operations.
- Perform regular cleaning, maintenance, and snow removal across school premises.
- Conduct inspections and respond to alarms during weekend shifts.
- Maintain written records of overtime assignments for Union access.
- Schedule, train, and allocate daily and long‑term custodial tasks.
- Monitor staff performance, enforce safety procedures, and provide performance feedback.
- Execute minor repairs on furniture, fixtures, doors, windows, plumbing, and coordinate major repairs with maintenance or contractors.
- Ensure proper operation of HVAC, lighting, and security systems.
- Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, steps, and emergency exits using appropriate equipment.
- Monitor weather and coordinate snow removal activities during early morning, evening, or weekend work.
- Maintain snow removal equipment in good working condition.
- Conduct regular facility inspections to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain records of cleaning schedules, supply usage, and maintenance needs.
- Monitor custodial supply inventory and re‑order as needed.
- Store and handle cleaning agents and equipment safely.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3 years of custodial or facilities maintenance experience; supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and operate cleaning and snow removal equipment.
- Availability for emergency or off‑hours work, including snow response.
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team effectively.
- U.S. citizenship, residency or work visa required.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- High school or trade school degree preferred.
- Indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and physical exertion.
- Early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required, especially during snow events.
- 40 hours per week, 6:30 am – 3:00 pm.
- Position fully‑time.
- Hourly rate $4.00 greater than that of a custodial at the appropriate step, based on the custodian contract.
- Compensation includes base hourly rate with one‑half rate for weekend inspections and alarm response.
