Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) is seeking full-time Custodians to start at the beginning of the 2026 - 2027 academic year. We are looking for individuals who can take on a wide range of custodial maintenance responsibilities related to the care, cleaning, and upkeep of assigned buildings and facilities. Custodians are responsible for maintaining cleanliness standards, ensuring safe and functional operations, and upholding strong housekeeping practices across campus.

Custodians begin each day by focusing on the cleanliness and overall condition of campus buildings. Responsibilities include cleaning and disinfecting restroom facilities and fixtures using approved methods. As needed throughout the year, Custodians also remove snow from nearby steps and sidewalks using tools such as brooms and shovels, and help with leaf raking during the fall season. This role also includes supervising work‑job students by assigning responsibilities, providing instruction, and ensuring they follow program expectations.

In addition, the Custodian keeps track of cleaning supplies to avoid waste and ensures equipment is clean, working properly, and safe to use. At times, this individual may complete specialized projects such as stripping and waxing floors, along with carpet and upholstery cleaning. Reliability, punctuality, and adherence to school safety policies are essential, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining a safe and clean environment for both students and employees.

• Ability to clean and care for assigned areas and equipment
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work
• Flexibility to manage a variety of changing responsibilities
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
• Strong attendance and time management skills
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to operate motorized vehicles required
• Ability to maintain the physical condition necessary for standing, walking, bending, or crouching for extended periods; lifting up to 40 lbs; and working in environments with possible exposure to fumes or odors

• Previous custodial experience
• Previous experience at a school or working with adolescents

This is an on-site position.

The typical shift is 6 AM - 2:30 PM. 40 hours a week, five days a week.
