Overview
The West Suburban YMCA is seeking an experienced part-time Maintenance Custodian to join our team. The compensation is $15.00-$20.00 per hour, depending on experience, certifications, and education.
Position SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Maintenance Director, the Maintenance Custodian assists in the day-to-day maintenance and housekeeping of the West Suburban YMCA and its facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, such as mopping, dusting, and trash removal, as well as duties related to window washing, meeting setup, pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping, and other related tasks as needed (including emergencies).
Responsibilities- Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the YMCA by performing duties listed on the daily schedule for the assigned area and equipment.
- Perform wet and dry mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, and seasonal tasks such as lawn care and snow removal.
- Assist with setup of furniture for events and support maintenance on multiple properties as needed.
- Operate related motorized and non-motorized equipment as required.
- Record and report repairs; perform repairs as directed when within scope.
- Ensure the building and property are secure during shifts and report incidents or hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
- Replenish soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
- Adhere to safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Support maintenance needs for Camp Chickami and CFAD properties as applicable.
- Six months or more of related experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
- Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
- Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
- Commitment to supporting equity-centered work and DEIB efforts.
- Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Certifications requested within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED and First Aid.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform essential duties.
- Ability to climb ladders and stand on elevated surfaces up to height limits required for the role.
- Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and formulations in various forms.
- Ability to perform maintenance tasks that may involve reaching, bending, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, crouching, and working in confined spaces.
