Job Description

The Associate Teacher is responsible for the day-to-day instruction in the classroom, providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. They work under the supervision of a certified teacher to deliver high-quality instruction.

Essential Functions Instructional Management
  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines from the Texas Education Agency and district policies.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media tailored to student needs and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with staff to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods aligned with district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants or volunteers.
  • Use technology in the teaching and learning process.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
Student Growth and Development
  • Assess student progress regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Assume responsibility for duties and extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Act as a positive role model supporting the district mission.
School/Organization Climate
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate for student maturity and interests.
  • Establish classroom control and administer discipline according to board policies.
  • Take precautions to protect students.
  • Assist in supervising students during the school day.
  • Promote a positive work environment and staff morale.
School/Organization Improvement
  • Participate with staff in building a vision for school improvement.
  • Help plan and implement activities to achieve the school’s mission.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
  • Protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
School/Community Relations
  • Maintain open communication with students and parents.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use clear communication skills to present information accurately.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in the district professional development program.
  • Show interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Observe ethical standards according to community norms and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.
Policy Implementation
  • Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports and records.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other Duties
  • Perform duties assigned by the principal or necessary for job effectiveness.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work well with children.
  • Experience managing a classroom (preferred).
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
Physical Demands
  • Moderate standing.
  • Stooping, bending, lifting.
  • Regular attendance required.
