Maintenance Technician

Full Time

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, and general upkeep of a small behavioral health hospital facility approximately 33,000 square feet in size. This role helps maintain a safe, clean, functional, and compliant environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The Maintenance Technician works closely with leadership and clinical teams to support hospital operations and ensure the physical environment meets regulatory and safety standards.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of experience in general maintenance, facilities, or building operations.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general repair work.
  • Ability to read and follow maintenance instructions, safety procedures, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, if travel between locations or supply pickups is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a hospital, healthcare, behavioral health, or other regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of environment of care, life safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance systems.
  • Experience supporting vendor coordination and facility inspections.
  • OSHA certification, basic electrical/mechanical training, or related technical certification.
  • Experience working with secured or patient-sensitive environments.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and reach overhead for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more with assistance.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor conditions, including varying temperatures and noisy environments.
  • Manual dexterity to use hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to respond quickly to urgent facility needs throughout the hospital.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety precautions.
Work Schedule / On-Call Expectations
  • Typically a full-time weekday schedule, with flexibility based on operational needs.
  • Occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended hours may be required.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation may be required for urgent maintenance or life safety issues outside regular hours.
  • Must be responsive to emergency calls involving utility outages, security issues, environmental hazards or equipment failures.

This individual must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Diplomacy and discretion are essential, as well as excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects. Professional demeanor and appearance required.
