Parks Maintenance Worker

This position maintains the condition of the County's parks and recreation areas to provide a clean and safe environment for workers and the public.

Essential duties include performing manual labor tasks in the maintenance and repair of public infrastructure within the park system, including light plumbing, light electrical, and routine interior/exterior maintenance. Other duties include parks maintenance such as repairs to fences, benches, picnic tables, garbage cans, signs, shelters, and any other existing structures. The worker also maintains walking trails, manages invasive vegetation, prunes healthy trees, and performs landscape maintenance.

The worker ensures the park's restrooms, picnic shelters, and recreation areas are clean and in working order, maintains the appearance of all parks to ensure the areas are free of litter, graffiti, trash, fallen tree limbs, and other debris, and operates various maintenance equipment.

The worker is expected to interpret and apply Federal, State, municipal, and Department rules, regulations, and policies, attend work regularly and be punctual, behave professionally, conduct self in a manner that reflects positively on the County, foster positive working relationships, and learn and understand the safe practices for the job being performed.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include understanding and following simple oral and written instructions, reading and understanding documentation, maintaining accurate records, time management, defining problems, exercising sound judgment, following the policies and practices contained in the County Personnel Handbook, and working the allocated hours of the position.

Minimum required qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in landscape maintenance and or similar industry. The worker must also have a valid Driver's License.

The physical and work environment characteristics include frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of lifting/moving or force, occasional lift, move, or drag 75 pounds or more, regular speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, and repetitive motions, occasional walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and reaching with hands and arms. The worker may also be exposed to inclement weather, chemicals, seasonal temperature extremes, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, hazardous waste, noise, equipment and vibrations, airborne materials, active construction sites, and traffic.
