School Custodian, 2nd shift - High School

Job Description

Maynard High School is a welcoming place to work!
School Custodian, 1pm - 9pm Monday - Friday (10am - 6pm summers and school vacation weeks) 40 Hours per week.

$27.24/hr during probationary period (first 90 WORK days) then rate increased to $27.79/hr overtime available! 14 holidays, 10 vacation days, 15 sick days, 2 personal days, health/dental/life insurance and other benefits available. Custodial Union Contract can be found at

Performance Responsibilities
  • Keep building and grounds, including sidewalk, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
  • Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
  • Shovel, plow, and/or sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps.
  • Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
  • Assume responsibility for the proper display of the United States flag outside of the building.
  • Sweep classrooms, dust furniture, and empty trash daily.
  • Clean corridors after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it.
  • Scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors daily and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  • Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary.
  • Keep the grounds free from rubbish.
  • Perform such yard-keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
  • Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
  • Clean all whiteboards and chalkboards at least once a week.
  • Make such minor building repairs as directed.
  • Report immediately to the principal or Director of Building Operations any damage to school property.
  • Remain on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and the custodian's attendance is required by the principal. During non-school hours, the custodian may represent the school's user groups.
  • Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day (including building alarm) and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
  • Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage of flammable materials and the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
  • Perform any additional reasonable duties as directed by the Principal.
Job Requirements
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
