General Description:

Full-time fireman position.

Required Qualifications
  • Education/Training: N/A
  • Licensure:
    Valid Stationary Engineer’s License
  • Experience:

    Evidence of successful work experience and a strong attendance record.
  • Knowledge/Abilities/

    Skills:

    Ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Skills to operate either a high- or a low-pressure boiler and repair and maintain all associated equipment.
  • Practical knowledge of all aspects of building maintenance methods and practices as they apply to school facilities.
  • Skills to work in boiler rooms and related areas; ability to work at heights atop boilers, stacks, roofs, and ladders; work any shift assignment and overtime on shift or weekends during emergencies and heating season.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Types of Activities Performed Frequently
  • Fire and maintain boilers; operate and maintain ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
  • Email and internet readiness for communication and record keeping.
Types of Activities Performed Occasionally
  • General – As directed.
  • Snow removal
  • Emergency all call system
  • Assist with painting projects
  • Headend fire panel reset or test mode
  • Utility disconnect knowledge to support first responders if needed
  • Building clock setting
  • Fire extinguisher review
  • Gain appropriate knowledge to fulfill future leadership roles
Basic Functions
  • Operate, maintain, and repair heating, cooling, and ventilating systems within the school plant.
  • Vertical Unit Ventilator electrical components
  • Variable Frequency Drive
  • Roof Top Unit trouble shooting and component replacement.
  • Understand and replacing gate valves, ball valves
  • Compressor and refrigerant components comprehensive equipment
  • Heating bundle trouble shooting and repair
  • FCU Fan coil units troubleshooting and repair
  • Light controls understanding and replacing components occupant and vacancies sensors.
  • Basic functions: organizing, building cleaning, and building classrooms, offices, tunnels, boiler rooms, and stairwells.
  • Repair, service or replace refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in accordance with national, state, and local codes.
  • Take appropriate boiler water tests and determine, if needed, proper chemical treatment
  • Backwash pool filters, maintain the proper chemical balance of pool water and make the necessary tests to determine bacteria and fungi count of pool water.
  • Replace fuses, reset circuit breakers and make minor electrical repairs.
  • Understanding/repairing economizing functions on Roof Top Units
  • Make required repairs and adjustments to thermostats, hot water converter units, and warm air supply units.
  • Repair and replace plant piping
  • Daily communication during the shift emails, text message or phone calls
  • Lubricate and repair air handling units, electrical motors, lighting, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Repair, replace, and repack all types of valves and traps.
  • Replace and/or adjust V-belts in pulley-driven machinery.
  • Submit School Dude work orders and closeout

Perform duties and assignments as directed by the Director of Operations or his designee.

Performance Evaluation/Accountability

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the evaluation of personnel, as established by the current Agreement between Proviso Township High Schools District No. 209 Board of Education and the Proviso Custodial and Maintenance Union SEIU Local 73, CTW, in alignment with Board Policy 5:320. All evaluations shall comply with State and Federal law and any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
