Custodian - GSA Facilities - McAllen, TX

Summary:

Performs custodial maintenance duties including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, and cleaning and restocking restrooms.

Performs general, routine custodial duties to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.

• Performs routine maintenance on custodial equipment and supplies
• Empties trash receptacles, bags trash for proper disposal, and disposes of trash into dumpsters
• Unlocks doors and ensures doors are locked after cleaning areas
• Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
• Assists in on‑job training of new staff on routine procedures
• Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements
• Strip and wax floors
• Cleans windows and entry doors
• Continually checks common areas for cleanliness and collects debris/trash
• Performs trash/litter removal indoors and out
• Empties recycle receptacles and transports to facility collection points
• Completes miscellaneous other duties as assigned
• Uses telescopic wand
• Uses lift up to 50’ high
• Hard surface cleaning
• Canopy cleaning
• Floor stripping
• Floor finish
• Power washing (concrete curbs, sidewalk, lanes, buildings, canopies)

• Considerable physical activity; requires heavy physical work, ability to lift 50 pounds or more, and pull or push objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work makes up more than 70% of the job.
• Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks that require basic safety precautions.
• Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, or loud noises.

• Must be able to obtain and retain U.S. Government access to the facilities via a thorough background check.
• Must be able to read and write in English and/or Spanish.
• High school graduate or equivalent desired.

A background check and drug screen will be conducted for this position.
