General Description

The Operations Support Worker plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of public spaces within the city. This position is essential for promoting community pride and ensuring a safe environment for residents and visitors. Responsibilities include cutting grass, picking up litter, and cleaning city facilities, contributing to the overall quality of life in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates lawn mowers, trimmers, and other landscaping equipment to maintain grass and landscaped areas in city parks, public rights-of-way, and facilities.
  • Assists in the planting, watering, and care of flowers, shrubs, and trees in public spaces.
  • Conducts regular inspections of city grounds to identify and address maintenance needs.
  • Performs routine cleaning and sanitization of city facilities, including restrooms, community centers, and public buildings.
  • Ensures that all public areas, including sidewalks and parks, are free from litter and debris.
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and tools used for grounds and facility maintenance.
  • Adheres to city policies and procedures, including safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Reports any hazards, safety issues, or maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly.
  • Interacts with residents and visitors in a courteous and professional manner, providing information about city services as needed.
  • Performs maintenance on all equipment used including mowers, vehicles, etc.
  • Participates in community clean‑up events and initiatives that promote environmental stewardship and community pride.
  • Assists with setting up events in the city when requested.
  • Assists with fixing signs, potholes, concrete, asphalt, etc., necessary for promoting a clean and safe environment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of geographical layout of the city
  • Knowledge of hazard and safety precautions associated with operation of equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Experience in grounds maintenance, custodial work, or a related field is advantageous.
  • Ability to operate basic landscaping and cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Skill in proper operation and basic repair of machinery and trucks used in assigned section.
  • Skill in the use of light and heavy tools and equipment.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to operate equipment and perform duties under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; at least one (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance, custodial work, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the stated requirements.

Physical Ability:
Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements:
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors:
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
