Summary of Position

Under general supervision, performs technical tasks in the operation of the wastewater collection system. Must be able to interrupt GIS maps and possess knowledge of different types of cleaning nozzles. Based on experience and qualifications, the position can be filled at Level I, Level II, or Level III.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities When Assigned to Combo Vac Operator I
  • Operate Combo Truck with limited supervision.
  • Maintain all combo truck equipment (nozzles, wands, vac cans).
  • Read and understand GIS maps.
  • Respond to emergency sewer requests.
  • Independently manage service requests, work orders, and service requests in City Works.
When Assigned to Combo Vac Operator II
  • Duties of Level I plus:
  • Operate combo truck with no supervision.
  • Operate skid steer to clean dump station.
  • Clean large and small diameter sewer pipes.
  • Select appropriate cleaning nozzles.
  • Make field GIS changes and deliver to GIS staff.
When Assigned to Combo Vac Operator III
  • Duties of Level I & II plus:
  • Train employees on combo truck operations and best practices for sewer televising.
  • Make competent person decisions in the field for confined space entry.
  • Work with the Project Analyst to schedule routine tasks.
  • Be familiar with CMOM operations.
  • Respond to emergency sewer requests as the primary field employee.
  • Possess advanced knowledge of cleaning nozzles and sewer cleaning best practices.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Level I:
    High School diploma or GED, Texas Class A CDL with tanker endorsements, TCEQ Wastewater License.
  • Level II:
    Level I requirements plus minimum 2 years of relevant combo truck experience, TCEQ Level II Wastewater License, completion of Sewer Cleaning 101 course (NEZAT Training) or equivalent, demonstrate RISE values.
  • Level III:
    Level I & II requirements plus minimum 5 years of relevant combo truck experience, experience in selection and application of cleaning nozzles, TCEQ Collection III license, NIMS 100 training, Competent Persons Training, demonstrate RISE values.
  • Any work‑related experience that results in proficiency may substitute for education or experience requirements.
