SUMMARY OF POSITION

Under general supervision, this position will perform a variety of duties to provide support to the users of airport facilities, including custodian and manual work in the care and cleaning of the McKinney National Airport Terminal and associated buildings and hangars. Responsibilities include general building security, maintenance, and cleanliness of the building, including the restrooms, locker rooms, staff areas, meeting rooms, hallways, doors, and water fountains.

The role also performs minor repairs, light groundskeeping, and miscellaneous moving of furniture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Uses computer to track daily logs, work orders, inventory supplies, emails, and training.
  • Drives to and from assigned work locations as directed.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule and attendance policies.
  • Cleans and vacuums all carpeted areas, including offices, hallways, and meeting rooms.
  • Sweeps, mops, cleans, and buffs all non‑carpeted areas, including restrooms and common areas.
  • Operates a buffing machine to strip, wax, and buff floorings as needed.
  • Takes out garbage and recycling daily and picks up debris on facility grounds.
  • Uses hand tools, dolly, blower, lift, electrostatic disinfectant sprayer, ladders, and other equipment.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions and maintenance needs to supervisor via the work‑order system.
  • Assists with special event preparations and daily activities that involve building, assembling, or transporting.
  • Performs deep cleaning projects such as dusting and polishing furniture, air‑return grills, light fixtures, etc.
  • Orders, retrieves, and delivers cleaning supplies through the city’s purchasing system.
  • Stocks janitor's closet and monitors inventory usage.
  • Performs midday cleaning and trash removal for break rooms and restrooms.
  • Conducts periodic floor detailing, strip‑and‑wax, and maintenance tasks (e.g., changing A/C filters, light bulbs, flushing valves).
  • Maintains the terminal grounds, including cutting, trimming, edging grass, and removing trash from parking lots.
  • Removes snow/ice from walkways and adjacent areas, applying de‑icing chemicals as necessary.
  • Complies with all written city policies and procedures.
  • Responds to customers’ and tenants’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of training, experience, or education. Must be able to read, understand, and follow written and oral directions and pass a post‑offer physical examination.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience or training in the care and maintenance of a large public facility, special flooring, and entry‑level maintenance.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must possess a Class C Texas Driver’s License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Tasks require heavy physical effort with emphasis on climbing and balancing, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy objects (20‑50 pounds). Occasionally heavier objects (up to 100 pounds) may be moved. Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Limited exposure to environmental conditions. Tasks may involve exposure to strong odors and/or smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold, or extreme weather conditions.
