Under direct supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform custodian and manual work in the care and cleaning of a City of McKinney facility. This includes performing deep cleaning projects (i.e. dusting and polishing furniture), inspecting the cleanliness of buildings, cleaning the restrooms and break rooms, removing trash, performing periodic floor detailing, handling daily meeting set ups and take downs, performing periodic maintenance tasks (i.e. changing filters or light bulbs), cleaning rooftops and gutters and performing other related work as required.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive to and from assigned work locations.
- Perform deep cleaning projects as needed, including dust & polish chairs, desks, tables, shelves and other furniture; dust & clean return air grills & registers; light fixtures, etc.
- Inspect cleaning of MPAC and fill out cleaning inspection sheets.
- Stock janitors' closets; monitor stock usage & inventory.
- Perform midday cleaning & trash removal (break rooms & restrooms).
- Perform periodic floor detailing and strip & wax floors.
- Handle daily meeting set ups and take downs.
- Periodically clean rooftops and gutters.
- Perform periodic maintenance tasks (e.g. changing AC filters, changing light bulbs, replacing batteries in flush valves, etc.).
- Comply with all written City policies and procedures.
- Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.
- Perform related work as required.
- Ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates and customers with respect.
- Build professional relationships with internal staff and customers.
- Offer flexibility and adaptability, especially during times of change.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
- Knowledge of heavy commercial cleaning equipment including high-powered buffers and vacuums.

- Ability to use equipment and cleaning materials efficiently and economically.
- Ability to recognize safety hazards and concerns and take appropriate action.
- Ability to read, understand and follow written directions and to follow oral directions.
Six months (6) of related experience (i.e. janitorial) required. Must have the ability to read, understand and follow written directions as well as to follow oral directions. Must have the ability to pass a post-offer physical examination. A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSTasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination.
WORKENVIRONMENT
There is limited exposure to environmental conditions. Tasks may require exposure to strong odors and/or smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions.
