Maintenance Worker, Building Maintenance
General Description
:
This is semi-skilled position. The incumbent performs routine custodial duties for the Department and under direct supervision, assists with other utility maintenance and operations duties as assigned.
Organization
:
The Utility Maintenance Worker reports to a Utility Supervisor and supervises no staff.
- Performs custodial duties in assigned areas within the Department.
- Properly maintains supplies and tools associated with custodial duties.
- Properly maintains supply and County required records.
- Assists with other Departmental duties as assigned (e.g. river sampling).
- Performs drying bed cleaning and maintenance as required.
- Serves as a backup to the Station Attendant for the Hanover County Truck Hauled Waste Facility.
- Assist the department in contract coordination such as trash removal and employee uniforms.
- Assist various groups within the department with inventory management.

- Routine lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs maximum

Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
:
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, required. Ability to perform heavy manual work for extended periods of time under varying climatic conditions, required.
Education, Experience and Training
:
High school diploma or equivalent with one (1) year of work related experience required – OR – Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities acceptable.
- Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting
- Must obtain valid Driver's License within 30 days of employment to be eligible to operate a county vehicle
- Pre-employment Physical Examination/Alcohol/Audiometric testing and repeated in accordance with policy thereafter
- Twelve-month probationary period
- Work beyond normal work schedule
- Must wear uniform, including safety equipment
- This position is subject to being on routine on-call.
