About the Role
Are you dependable, detail-oriented, and take pride in keeping spaces clean and safe? The City of Medford is looking for a custodian to join our team!
Applicants must show at least six months of custodial experience.
Responsibilities- Ensure City buildings remain safe, clean, and welcoming for employees and the public.
- Carry out routine cleaning, sanitizing, and light maintenance tasks.
- Contribute to a supportive team that keeps Medford running strong.
- Perform other custodial duties as assigned.
- Cleans, sanitizes, and disinfects restrooms, break rooms and all public spaces.
- Stock custodial closets with appropriate supplies.
- Sweeps, vacuums, and mops (wet and dry) a variety of flooring materials.
- Dusts furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment.
- Washes windows, mirrors and walls, tables, and chairs.
- Empties and disposes of collected waste, recycled goods and other materials.
- Adheres to safety practices and standards when performing all duties.
- May be required to travel between different work locations based on operational need.
- Performs a variety of minor routine building maintenance tasks; identifies and reports building maintenance needs in assigned buildings and facilities.
- Keep all equipment and tools in good operational condition.
- Demonstrates regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
- Handles job stress and interacts effectively with others in the workplace.
- Fosters an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
- At least six months of custodial experience.
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- A reliable, hardworking individual.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work independently.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, equipment, and supplies used in custodial maintenance.
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the position.
- Ability to adjust to priority work changes.
- Ability to conform with all safety rules and perform work in a safe manner.
- Ability to operate modern office equipment including computer equipment, and specialized software applications programs effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance upon hire.
- Possess a valid driver's license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days.
- Maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
- Successfully complete a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
- Monday – Thursday: 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM.
- Sunday: 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
- Occasionally, you may be required to work on a holiday if it falls on your regular workday.
Salary Range: $20.70 (first step) to $22.82 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.
- Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) retirement contributions paid by employer for part‑time, year‑round positions.
