Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the overall administration of the Maintenance Department and for ensuring the department follows company rules and guidelines. They direct maintenance personnel to maintain and repair manufacturing/processing/packaging equipment, establish preventive maintenance schedules, manage spare parts inventory, and develop work order processes.

  • Empower maintenance personnel to perform repairs and maintenance for equipment, building structures, and grounds.
  • Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance program and measure effectiveness through reduced plant mechanical downtime.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, including setting reorder points and monitoring stock levels.
  • Develop and maintain an effective work order process to reduce cycle time and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of manufacturing and refrigeration equipment.
  • Provide training and coaching to maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain staff levels and oversee hiring interviews.
  • Apply progressive disciplinary procedures in line with the Manager’s Handbook.
  • Report activity and project status to the Plant Engineering Manager each month.
  • Develop and maintain the department budget.
  • Conduct studies of equipment problems and recommend solutions to the Plant Engineering Manager.
  • For minor projects using outside services, develop specifications, conduct pre‑bid meetings, analyze bids, and supervise installations.
  • Ensure proper staffing and balance labor costs with customer needs.
  • On projects over $5,000, obtain three competitive bids and document exceptions.
  • Follow contractor policy and maintain a strong food safety, personnel safety, and compliance record.
  • Coordinate project activities among departments, contractors, and Amy’s personnel, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulations.
  • Conduct planning meetings for major projects and provide technical support to plant departments.
  • Manage the department safety record and monitor adherence to safety rules, including lock‑out/tag‑out procedures.
  • Ensure staff compliance with employee handbook, safety manual, GMP booklet, and HACCP program.
  • Allow maintenance supervisors to cover duties in absence.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Oversees the maintenance team.

Education
  • BS Degree in Engineering from a four‑year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience as a Maintenance Supervisor or Manager in a similar manufacturing environment.
Skills
  • Proficiency with PLCs and servo system troubleshooting/programming (recommended).
  • Proficiency in interpreting electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical drawings (recommended).
  • PC literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook on Windows 2000 or later.
Language Skills
  • Able to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write effective emails, memos, reports, and other workplace communications.
