The County Facilities Management Department is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all County properties and select leased properties. The Floor Technician maintains a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and sanitary conditions at County facilities. The employee in this classification primary responsibility will be to keep different types of flooring clean and well-maintained. The employee will service stone, terrazzo, VCT tile, vinyl, carpet, using different cleaning tools, chemicals, and floor equipment.
Additionally, the employee will be responsible for checking if the floors are clean and in good condition, using the right cleaning methods, doing maintenance tasks and following health and safety standards.
Reporting to Housekeeping Supervisor, the Floor Technician is a critical member of the team within the County Facilities Department. The primary work location will be the Government Center Complex in Media; however, the employee may also be assigned to work in other facilities owned by the County of Delaware.
Essential Duties
* Perform floor coating applications in accordance with project scope, specifications, and safety standards.
* Properly use and maintain tools, materials, and equipment required for floor coating applications, including but not limited to side-by-side floor machine, burnisher, ride-on floor scrubber, walk-behind floor scrubber, and shampooer.
* Responsible for ensuring that chemicals are used according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
* Strongly skilled in performing buffing, stripping, and waxing of floors.
* Run vacuum cleaners on all carpeted areas and clean and mop all designated stairwell areas.
* Unload supplies up to 50 pounds and various pieces of office equipment from trucks for storage and placement in all buildings.
* Ability to lift, push, pull, carry, and exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
* Perform inventory of cleaning supplies.
* Clean walls and perform special cleaning procedures on brickwork and other specialty surfaces.
* Responsible for maintaining and cleaning equipment before and after each use.
* Support the Housekeeping Supervisor by communicating job-site conditions, material needs, and any issues that may impact progress.
* Perform daily set-ups for events, complete minor repairs, trash removal, and outside clean-up of County facilities.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work site.
* Follow all safety protocols, including consistent use of required PPE.
* Complete all assignments in an efficient, consistent, and timely manner.
* Occasionally assists building maintenance mechanics with non-skilled tasks.
* Performs other reasonably related duties in equal or lower classifications as assigned by supervisory personnel.
* Performs work as directed by supervisors in accordance with the Labor Agreement between the County of Delaware and County of Delaware Public Employees' Association Local 3107 and of AFSCME, District Council 88. Article 1, Section 1
Qualifications
* High School graduate or equivalent.
* Minimum two (2) years previous Floor Care experience.
* Experience with operating and maintaining commercial cleaning equipment.
* Arrive prepared and ready to work at designated job sites, with the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
* Valid Class C driver's license.

* In-depth understanding of the proper chemicals to use in certain situations and all aspects of safety that are involved.
* Ability to attend training sessions, as required.
* Ability to understand and follow SDS compliance and OSHA safety standards.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
* Knowledge of sanitary cleaning techniques.
* Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers and the public.
