Position Summary/Purpose:
Provide for a safe, effective learning environment which promotes the educational and social growth of all students within the classroom. Teach elementary school subjects to educationally and physically handicapped students. This may include teachers who specialize and work with audibly and visually handicapped students and those who teach basic academic and life processes skills to the mentally impaired.

Starting Salary:
Based on Education and Years of Teaching - based on increased negotiated rate higher than last year's Salary Schedule

Role and Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions:
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and revise Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Provide bilingual and special education instruction to kindergarten students using differentiated instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, and evidence-based interventions
  • Support students' English language development while maintaining access to grade-level curriculum and fostering academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and language growth
  • Assess and monitor student progress using formal and informal assessments and maintain accurate student records and documentation
  • Create and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment that supports students' emotional, behavioral, physical, and academic needs
  • Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, administrators, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and other staff regarding student progress, instructional planning, and educational programming
  • Utilize instructional technology, assistive technology, and classroom resources to support student learning and communication
  • Attend professional meetings, IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development activities as required
  • Maintain confidentiality, enforce district policies and procedures, and perform other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position
  • Plan and prepare instructional materials, lessons, and classroom activities aligned to curriculum, student IEP goals, and language development needs
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, needs, and educational supports in a culturally responsive manner
  • Implement classroom management strategies and behavior supports to maintain a safe and productive learning environment
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Special Education Endorsement and Bilingual Endorsement
Working conditions / Environment:

Physical Demands: mobility within the instructional area and throughout the school facility, visual acuity close/distance/depth perception, hearing to receive information, verbal to exchange information. Physical demands often include walking, sitting, bending, twisting, stooping reaching forward, lifting up to 25 pounds, pushing and pulling

Environmental Conditions: indoor climate controlled school environment. May include being outdoors for extended periods of time throughout the year
